Game Summary

The Miami Heat made history on Friday night by becoming the first No. 10 seed to advance out of the NBA Play-In Tournament, defeating the Atlanta Hawks 123-114 in overtime. Despite Atlanta’s gritty comeback after a cold first half, Miami’s poise and clutch plays proved too much to overcome.

The Hawks shot just 4-of-20 from three in the first half and trailed by as many as 17, but rallied to take a late lead with just over three minutes left in regulation. However, the Heat pushed the game into overtime — and from there, it was all Miami.

Herro and Mitchell Lead the Way

Tyler Herro was dominant through four quarters, pouring in 30 points on efficient shooting, including 5-of-10 from three. He nailed several key shots, including clutch triples in the extra period.

In overtime, it was Davion Mitchell who stole the show. He personally outscored the Hawks 9-8 in OT, providing the spark Miami needed to pull away and secure the win.

What’s Next for Miami and Atlanta

With the win, Miami locks in the No. 8 seed and will face the No. 1 seed Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday night to kick off their first-round series.

Impact on the Thunder’s Draft Picks

The win also benefits the Oklahoma City Thunder, who now officially receive Miami’s No. 15 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. This comes as part of a long-standing trade route linked to the 2019 Paul George deal.

OKC now holds both the 15th and 25th picks in the first round (the latter via the Clippers).
